The following recipe is a great favourite in our family and was invented when the children was small and always hungry and not much money coming in.Time has not changed this dish as its now a favourite of our grandchildren and any visitors.Please feel free to adjust the recipe to your own taste

1 sausage per person

1 slice of bacon per person

1 tin of bake beans between 2 persons

1lb potatoes

That piece of old cheese < CUT MOULD OFF AND GIVE TO THE BIRDS.

A couple of tomatoes optional

Peel and boil potatoes you can save power by cutting spuds small and using a lid

Chop sausage into bite size pieces and fry when nearly cooked

Derind bacon chop into bite size and fry

Open beans and heat through add cooked meat and put in heatproof dish

Mash spuds with butter and milk also add at least half of grated cheese

Put mash on top of beans and meat

Top with rest of grated cheese and slice tomato

Place under grill till golden

Be careful with hot dish when removing from grill and allow to cool a little for the old and very young this is cheap comfort food and very filling I have added mushrooms and onion over the years but my family prefer the original version
